On August 25, 2025, this page received the following abuse report: ----- Hello, We have received the attached notice that you are posting, hosting or distributing trademark infringing content on our network. A copy of the complaint identifying the content in question is included below. Please review the attached notice and take appropriate action. ----- Complaint: ----- "PuTTY.org was registered by an individual many years ago, by a competing that competes with the PuTTY project. It linked to the official PuTTY website, and then advertised its own competing products beneath. However, starting 1-2 months ago, the owner of putty.org replaced all content with anti-vax material, with prominent mention of PuTTY in the title of the webpage. They have removed all reference to their own SSH client (Bitvise) so that the anti-vax material is tied to the PuTTY identity rather than their own. This appears to be an attempt to defame the PuTTY project. Could you please investigate this, and consider if this use of your services is acceptable. Across media, it's generally accepted that the owner of putty.org is a domain squatter that is attempting to defame the PuTTY project, so this should be a clear case of abuse. Thank you!" ----- Response from the administrator of the page: ----- Hello, this complaint makes misleading claims. Putty.org was not registered by a competitor to PuTTY. It was registered by unrelated persons in 1999. It was purchased at a market price, by the current administrator, in 2008. The administrator's commercial software is not in competition with PuTTY: - PuTTY is an SSH and SFTP client. - The administrator's commercial software is an SSH and SFTP server. The products work well together and are complementary. The administrator of Putty.org also develops an SSH client which has similar functionality as PuTTY. This client is available free of charge and is developed at a loss. Both PuTTY, and the administrator's SSH client, serve the public good. It is not apparent how this is in conflict. Due to recent controversy, the administrator has rededicated the Putty.org page to a new purpose. The page disclaims association with PuTTY software. It links to content which the administrator believes is characterized by neutrality, integrity and honesty. The administrator believes this is of critical public interest. As a courtesy, a footnote continues to link to the PuTTY project. The complaint says that "across media, it is generally accepted that [X]." This falsely alleges to represent everyone who's opinion matters. If someone is to bring a complaint, the person with standing is the PuTTY project, not "the media." The current content of Putty.org is NOT infringing, is NOT competitive, and is protected speech in the United States. Best regards, [Administrator] ----- Administrator's statement: Today's "abuse report" insinuates that this page linking to Mike Yeadon's Final Warning is in bad faith. That it is to "defame" the PuTTY project by associating it with "anti-vax material." This page does not associate the PuTTY software with anything; no more than Putty.com associates it with filler and toll manufacturing, or Putty.net and Putty.io with domain sales websites. This page used to link to the PuTTY software, until I was attacked for that with hostile blog posts and articles. Since this is coming from the "media", my response is what the "media" most hate: truth, which it is their job to conceal. I am in agreement with Mike Yeadon. I've arrived at the same conclusions by investigating things, and not relying on what the "media" told me to believe. I humbly encourage the reader to do that. You may find that the world is in a serious, alarming condition, and that our ignorance is a prerequisite for this.
